Have you noticed that there's something to celebrate every day? At BBB we have a great time each month going through the food holidays as well as the unusual AND absurd holidays. Sometimes we get fun ideas from all of the ways to celebrate out there. While it's impossible for us to mark them all, we have picked a few special days in the month of August to share with you.

August 1 - Girlfriends Day

This holiday has only been around since 2006 and on the National Holiday Calendar since 2014. It may be one of those holidays that never takes off because so many of us treasure our girlfriends all year long. Remembering August 1st as a holiday may be a bit harder than remembering when it's time for some girl time with our significant other and/or bestie. In fact, every time Amy Poehler and Tina Fey show up together, we're reminded that it's time for a girl's night out.

August 3 - Watermelon Day

We've been talking about watermelons, remembering the days of watermelon spitting contests. Who grew up believing that a watermelon would grow in your belly if you swallowed a seed? Maybe that concept is just for those of us who have older brothers!

North Carolina is the eighth largest producer of watermelons in the US. Want to find out about watermelon farmers in our area? Check out the ASAP website. Meanwhile, be sure to check out the watermelon at BimBeriBon this month.

August 4 Chocolate Chip Cookie Day

Chocolate Chip Cookies may be ubiquitous, but that's because they're so delicious! There's nothing common about the chocolate chip cookies you'll find at BimBeriBon. Our cookies are gluten free and refined sugar free AND they're amazing!

August 5 - Friendship Day and "Work Like a Dog" Day

This is a very special day. One of our Instagram friends captures friendship posts by showing how hard her sweet dog Joey "works." Thanks to @nourshyouressence for sharing this special friendship with the world!

August 9 - Book Lover's Day

We're book lovers around here, and it's not just cookbooks that we crave. One favorite is Go Dog Go! by P.D. Eastman.

Never say we don't have fun around here.

Owner and Chef Reza Setayesh has three recommendations off the top of his head: Sweet by Yotam Ottolenghi & Helen Goh, The Zuni Cafe Cookbook by Judy Rodgers, and Victuals by Ronni Lundy.

Our General Manager Marisa Croce recommends around my french table by Dorie Greenspan. Chef Julie Allen loves Jaques Pepin's books - where she learned to debone a chicken in 60 seconds. Pastry Assistant Mary Parham's favorite cookbook isn't one she uses for baking, but she's crazy about Wild Fermentation by Sandor Ellix Katz.

May we recommend finding these books at a local bookstore. If Malaprop's doesn't have it in stock, we bet they can order it for you.

Here are a few other days we're interested in this month. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram - we'll be sharing ideas and specials.

August 17 - Thrift Shop Day

August 26 - Women's Equality Day

August 29 - More Herbs Less Salt Day

August 31 - Eat Outside Day, Trail Mix Day
